$1.7 Million Worth of Iconic Frank Lloyd Wright-Designed House in Milwaukee

For the first time in nearly seven decades, in September, one of the architectural designs that Frank Lloyd Wright created and included on the National Register of Historic Places was put up for sale for $1.5 million. Thus, on Thursday, Dec. 28, the home sale was finalized after many offers to purchase it were submitted.

The Bogk House, inaugurated by Milwaukee merchant Frederick C. Bogk and his wife, Mary, in 1916, is described by Christie's International Real Estate as having an open floor plan, a multi-level living area, five bedrooms, and an area for relaxing on the second floor. In 1955, Barbara and Robert Elsner purchased the five-bedroom home for roughly $36,000. The Elsners' daughter, Margaret Howland, resides in the residential property.

Moreover, the Elsners reportedly demonstrated exceptional stewardship by decorating the residence with furnishings and rugs designed by Wright and consulting with his firm regarding a kitchen remodeling that retained the original countertop, pantry, sink, and window, subsequently after the architect died in 1959. Although a bathroom has been installed and another has been repaired, most of this house's features have been preserved in their original state.

A central fireplace, leaded glass windows, millwork, recessed lighting, and built-in cabinets are some historical characteristics preserved through preservation efforts. Also, the house is adorned with many built-in amenities designated as historic landmarks and must be conserved forever. In addition, using a paint study, they could return the inside walls that had been painted over to their original colors.

Aside from being a founder member of the Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy in Chicago, Barbara Elsner, now 97 years old, was also a member of the nonprofit organization Wright in Wisconsin, responsible for organizing tours of Frank Lloyd Wright's buildings.

On the other hand, Christie's International Real Estate claims that the property's new owners are a pair of Frank Lloyd Wright admirers who intend to preserve Wright's legacy by preserving the home's historical elements.
